David Stoker retired from Temple at the end of May following more than a decade with the business and a career in legal expenses insurance spanning many years.
Having joined Temple in 2015, David quickly became a key member of the Pinical team, bringing with him extensive underwriting experience together with a background working within personal injury law firms. Over the years, he became a familiar and trusted contact for many claimant solicitors across the sector.
Reflecting on David’s contribution, Matthew Best, Director of ATE Partnerships and Head of PI and Clinical Negligence, said: “David very quickly became a very important member of the team. I remember interviewing him all those years ago and thinking that this is exactly the kind of person I wanted on the team.
“Externally, Dave became one of the faces of Temple’s clinical negligence and personal injury underwriting. The law firms he worked closely with relied on him for answers to their problems and he always delivered. In many cases, he became more than just a point of contact – he became a friend.”
Within the team itself, David became just as well known for his humour and personality as for his underwriting knowledge and reliability. “Dave had a knack of bringing light-heartedness to the team,” Matthew added. “If someone was having a bad day, he would crack a joke or mutter something under his breath that would make people laugh.
“At the same time, his attention to detail and willingness to help others was second to none. If anything needed doing, Dave would always volunteer. His experience and knowledge helped the team every single day.”
Like many in the legal expenses insurance market, David spent years travelling around the country visiting firms and attending meetings, something Matthew remembers particularly fondly.
“There was always a story,” he said. “Whether it was travelling to Manchester, Hull or South Wales, Dave somehow managed to turn ordinary work trips into memorable occasions – usually involving a lot of laughter.”
As David now begins his retirement, everyone at Temple would like to thank him for his contribution over the years and wish him all the very best for the future.
