Legal Expenses Development Underwriter

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our Legal Expenses Insurance Underwriting and Development team, in an Account Development role. The role will be focused on commercial and scheme legal expenses insurance, developing new business opportunities, maintaining existing relationships and assisting with underwriting referrals.

You will be a strong team player, working efficiently to meet agreed objectives and have a good eye for detail. You must be able to deal effectively with enquiries, and operate well within the parameters of stipulated procedures and authority limits.

You will have a demonstrable record of exceptional interpersonal skills with voice, digital and face to face communication experience. Full working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and the use of Management Information Systems is expected. You will be required to undertake ongoing training in line with agreed objectives and keep up-to-date with technical, legal and market developments via use of e-learning, internal training and by reading market related material.

Essential Skills/Experience required to succeed in this role:

  • Minimum 5 years working for an Insurer, account management or underwriting
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Experience working with insurance brokers and intermediaries

Desired Experience

  • Experience with legal expenses insurance

Commercial Legal Expenses Underwriter (ATE)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our Underwriting team as an Insurance Underwriter. The right candidate will mainly be focused on assessing the merits of a wide range of commercial cases with a view to offering ATE insurance, developing new business and maintaining relationships with our existing professional clients.

It is essential that you have gained experience within a legal environment working on Commercial cases; this could have been earnt whilst working in a law firm; or underwriting After the Event (ATE) or Legal Expenses Insurance (LEI) matters.

The role would suit candidates that excel in:

  • Applying their legal knowledge and practical experience of litigation to assess the merits of a wide range of cases including general commercial litigation, professional negligence, banking and finance, insolvency and probate.
  • Maintaining good relationships with the firms we work with across the UK and developing new business.
  • Liaising with our solicitor clients to manage cases we have already insured and delegated authority schemes.
  • Developing your skills as an underwriter through managing risk in accordance with our guidelines and procedures.

The minimum experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years PQE (If Lawyer/Solicitor Background) or;
  • Minimum 5 years ATE/LEI Underwriting Experience

The right candidate will mainly be focused on managing delegated authority schemes, underwriting new risks and developing new business. You will be required to master and implement underwriting guidelines and to demonstrate a detailed understanding of risk exposure and appetite. 

It is essential that you have gained over 5 years’ experience working either as a paralegal/fee earner/associate/solicitor or as a Personal Injury/Clinical Negligence Insurance Claims handler and now seeking an opportunity to develop your career into Underwriting.
